Admissions

Q: How can I apply?
A: If applicant wants to apply for study at Unicorn College he/she needs to send online application form which can be found on our website - application form.
Q: When will be entrance interview?
A: Terms of entrance interview for each academic year can be found on our website - calendar of events.
Q: What are the conditions to be accepted to study?
A: The conditions to be accepted to study are as following:
  • successfully passed high school education proved by high school leaving certificate
  • send an application form
  • successfully pass entrance interview
Q: My knowledge of English is not very good, is it a problem?
A: Study at Unicorn College requires basic knowledge of English language as courses taught here are business related. However for those applicants Unicorn College made a program of English preparatory courses taught by czech teacher. More information at Study Department.
Q: Can I change information filled in my application form after sending it?
A: Yes, information can be changed. However you have to contact Study Department to make the change.
Q: What is the average number of applicants accepted?
A: Unicorn College accept in average 45% of all applicants.
Q: Which forms of study Unicorn College offers?
A: Unicorn College offers a bachelor study programmes in full-time, part-time and individual forms of study. More information can be found on our website www.unicorncollege.cz
Q: Are there any fees charged for application form?
A: Yes, we charge CZK 500,- for application form and CZK 500,- for entrance interview.
Q: How can I pay for application form?
A: We accept payment in cash (in Czech crowns) and by bank transfer. The payment details for domestic and foreign payments can be found here.
Q: Is it possible to make a phone call interview?
A: Yes, phone call interview is possible. We ask student to give us 3 terms which suit him/her the best and then we will set up a term of interview. Student is then requested to call to Study Department on scheduled date and interview can take place.
Q: How can I ask for phone call interview?
A: The best way is to call or send an email to Study Department.
Q: Is it possible to accept subject passed in other University?
A: Yes, acceptance of subjects from other Universities are possible. Student will be ask to show original or verified copy of Transcript of records and verified syllabus of subject.
Q: Does Unicorn College provide accommodation?
A: Unicorn College provide students with information about accomodation in Prague's dormitories, youth hostels and others.
Q: Which documents do I need to be accepted to study?
A: To be accepted to study applicant needs:
  • original or verified copy of high school leaving certificate
  • for foreign students a document which verify equality of education learnt in home country with the same level of education in Czech republic (so called “nostrifikace”)
  • student's ID card (passport etc)
Q: What is “nostrifikace”, how can I get it and where? How long does it take?
A: Nostrifikace is document for foreign students only which verifies education learnt at your home country is equal to the same level of education here in Czech republic. Foreign students can not be accepted to study without this document.

To get this document you need to apply for it at Prague's Municipality. The process takes 30 days (in more difficult cases 60 days) and Municipality charge fee of CZK 200,-. More information can be found at Prague's Municipality.
Q: Does Unicorn College provide scholarships?
A: Yes, Unicorn College provide its student with scholarships based on their study results (only for czech language programme). Another type of scholarship is scholarship for accommodation and social scholarship. This type of scholarships are given upon decision of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
Q: How can I get the scholarship?
A: Applicants can apply for scholarship test on application form.
Q: Is study contract available on website?
A: Yes, you can find it here.
Q: Where can I find study plan for each field of study and subject syllabi?
A: Following documents are available on our website in section studies under Time Schedule.
Q: Does Unicorn College have accreditation of its study programmes?
A: Yes, both System engineering and Informatics and Economics and Management. More information can be found on accreditation commission website.
Q: Can I register myself into 2nd or 3rd year of study without studying 1st year?
A: Students are always accepted to 1st year the only difference is they can ask for acceptance of subjects passed from other university and this way shorten the length of study at Unicorn College.
Q: Can I finish my studies in less then standard length of study?
A: Yes, it is possible. However students has to meet all requirements according to study plan and study rules.

Entrance procedure

Q: How does the entrance interview proceed?
A: Whole process of entrance interview is described on our website in section entrance interview.
Q: Are there any written tests during entrance interview?
A: No tests are written during entrance interview. We focus more on spoken word with applicant and getting know his/her logical thinking, orientation in requested field of study and basic knowledge of English language.
Q: How long does the interview take?
A: The lenght of interview depends on applicant's general knowledge. Usually it is about 15 – 20 min.
Q: When can I get the results of interview and how?
A: You will receive an email 2 days after the entrance interview. Each applicant who took part in the entrance interview will receive the decision about acceptance to study in written form with stamp and signature of  the college's rector. The official document is created 14 days after the entrance interview.
Q: How can I pay for application form?
A: We accept payment in cash (in Czech crowns) and by bank transfer. The payment details for domestic and foreign payments can be found here.

Q: How can I get a visa and how long doest it take?
A: To get a visa student need following documents made by Unicorn College:
  • Invitation letter
  • Decision about acceptance to study or similar confirmation in case student has not been accepted yet
  • Study confirmation or similar in case has not been accepted yet
Other important documents or information can be found on website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Czech republic.
Q: What is “nostrifikace”, how can I get it and where? How long does it take?
A: Nostrifikace is document for foreign students only which verifies education learnt at your home country is equal to the same level of education here in Czech republic. Foreign students can not be accepted to study without this document. To get this document you need to apply for it at Prague's Municipality. academic year progress

Q: When does the academic year start?
A: Academic year usually starts in the beginning of October. More information can be found at up to date academic calendar
Q: How long does courses and exam season take?
A: Courses usually takes 12 weeks and exam season 5 weeks.
Q: What is the grading scale of subjects taught at Unicorn College?
A: Students are given number grades:
1 – excellent
2 – very good
3 – good
4 – insufficiently
During academic year students are taking continuous tests and are given points to their continuous evaluation. If they meet requirements for continuous evaluation they are able to take exam. According to the number of points given during exam students are given grades.

Q: How much is tuition fee at Unicorn College?

Q: Are there any fees charged for application form?
A: Yes, we charge CZK 500,- for application form. No fees are charged for entrance interview.

First time at Unicorn College

Q: Do I have to attend to courses daily? It is obligatory?
A: Attendance to courses depends on form of study applicant will choose. On one hand full-time students are attending courses from Monday to Friday. On the other hand part-time students are usually attending courses once per 1 month. Attendance is obligatory on seminar courses. Lectures are public and voluntary.
Part-time students (as well as full-time students) can take advantage of podcasts. Lectures are being recorded and students can prepare in advance for upcoming seminar/lecture.
Q: Where can I get study materials?
A: Study materials are available in Unicorn College's information system Unicorn Universe for free to all students.
Q: Whom should I contact if I have any question regarding study?
A: The best way is to contact Study Department. Contacts can be found on our website.
Q: I forgot my login details, what should I do?
A: If you have lost or forgot your login details, feel free to contact our help desk.
 
Q: I can not see Unicorn College news after login, what should I do?
A: Check your personal settings if your preferred territory is Unicorn College business territory and your preferred role is student's role. For more information you can take advantage of Unicorn Universe guide/help.

Subject registration for 2nd and 3rd year students

Q: Do I have to register subjects by myself or it is done automatically?
A: Students of 2nd and 3rd year has to register subjects by themselves through subject registration request. Subject registration for 1st year students is done automatically.
Q: Can I change my study group?
A: Yes, changes are possible within 14 days after semester starts. After this period no request will be accepted.
Q: Where can I find the subject registration request?
A: Subject registration request can be found at News Portal in information systems UU.
Q: When should I register my subjects?
A: Study Department will publish the academic year schedule in advance. At the beginning of subject registration the department will publish a reminder on the News Portal in information systems UU.
Q: Which subjects should I register for?
A: Students should register for subject according to their field of study and study plan - time schedule.
Q: I can not see registered subjects in my credit book, is it only mistake?
A: If semester hasn't started yet, it is not mistake and subjects will appear in your credit book in the beginning of semester. If semester started already and subjects had not appeared in your credit book contact Study department immediately.
Q: When my timetable will be ready and where can I find it?
A: Timetable will be available at last 14 days before semester starts and it is available from college's information system Unicorn Universe by displaying your diary (agenda).
Q: Can I change my timetable and what is the deadline?
A: Yes, changes are possible within 14 days after the semester starts. After 2 weeks period no requests will be accepted.
Q: Where can I find optional subject?
A: All optional subjects can be found in our information system. Note: Not all of the optional subjects are opened every semester. A list with opened optional subjects is being published on News portal in information system.
Q: What will happened if do not register for any subject?
A: If you do not send a request for subject registration you will not be able to see your timetable. The only chance will be registration at 2nd round in the beginning of semester. However the capacity of some subjects might be full and you would not be able to join the subject.
Q: Should I register for both semesters – winter and summer, or only for one?
A: Registration of subjects is for whole academic year, i.e. both semester – winter and summer.
Q: I can not see all requested subjects in my credit book, what should I do?
A: Contact Study Department immediately.
Q: I can more subjects in my credit book then I registered for, what should I do?
A: Contact Study Department immediately.

Q: Is it possible to join a class without being Unicorn College student?
A: Lectures are public and anybody can join them. For those who wants to know more Unicorn College prepared an Open Day programme. Programme list can be found on our website.
Q: I forgot my login details, what should I do?
A: If you have lost or forgot your login details, feel free to contact our help desk.
Q: How can I contact Unicorn College? 
A: The best way is to contact Study Department via our Information system. If you are not Unicorn college student, contact us via email or by phone. If you are alredy student, please, contact us via information system. There are many ways how to contact them, the best is through request to Study department, because students doesn't have to go to school personally and saves their time. If you wish to contact someone from Unicorn College's management (Director, Rector etc.) choose the same way – request to Study department – which will be put through to the person whom it is addressed.
Q: Does Unicorn College intend to have Master degree?
A: Yes. However the situation with getting accreditation for master's in Czech republic is difficult and requirements has raised up.
Q: Does Unicorn College provide courses without being a student?
A: No. However one of Unicorn companies does – Unicorn education. For more information see website.
Q: I don't know how to use school system Unicorn Universe, what should I do?
A: If you are not sure using the system, feel free to use the system's Guide for beginners (Find in - Universe - Help code: UUP/EN/SC/HELP)
Q: How does the academic year go?
A: Feel free to check our academic calendar in the system.
Q: How many times I can take continuous evaluation tests and exams?
A: For every continuous evaluation test there are 2 terms (official and retake) and if student fail writing. it on second term he can ask for individual term. Number of individual tests is not limited. For exams there are 3 terms and if student fail the exam he can ask for individual term of exam which is last term possible. In other words number of exam terms is limited up to 4 terms at maximum.
Q: What are the conditions to be accepted to second or third year?
A: Student has to pass at least 36 credits for whole academic year to be accepted to 2nd or 3rd year of study.
