Business Economics

To provide essential skills and create habits required to manage a business. To acquaint students with basic business economics categories and to teach them a synthetic view of the business, laying foundations for later specialised lessons.

What are you going to learn

  1. Basic terminology and category of business economics – Company and business. Basic laws and acts of business. Entrepreneur. Manager. Leader. History of business in the Czech Republic. Business economy.
  2. Company and its life-cycle. Effectiveness in the company – Targets, functions and typology of company. Life-cycle of the company. Effectiveness and its calculation. Production factors. Production. Costs. Revenues. Sales. Profit. Break-even point. Ratios of Effectiveness – costs, efficiency, return.  
  3. Environment of the company and its analysis – Importance of environment and its analysis. Tools for strategic analysis. Usage of information from the environment for the management.
  4. Structure of assets and the capital – Characteristic and structure of assets and capital of the company. Their valuation and optimization. Calculation of the optimal capital structure and choice of the proper variant.
  5. Organizational of the activities of the company – Importance and the content of organizational activities  in the company. Process and the matrix organization.Pros and cons of different structures of organization.
  6. Planning process of the business activates. Business plan – Importance and message of plan in the business activities. Methods and forms of the planning activities. Compilation and structure of the business plan.
  7. Management of the company. Strategic plan – System of management. Process management. Strategic management. Main terms and categories. Process of compilation and implementation of the strategic plan. Ministrategies.
  8. Financial management. Investment activities and its effectiveness - Financial management and decision making. Investments, their planning and assessment.
  9. Production of the company and management of effectiveness – Production and its conception. Business norms. Calculation of business capacities. Management of production process.
  10. Risk management – Risk and its conception. Risk systematization. Prevention of inception of the risks. Models of risk management and their application.

How the course is organized

Full time study

The course consist of 12 lectures and 12 workshops, each lasting 1,5 hours.

Part time study

The course is taught in 4 blocks on weekends, each lasting 3 hours.
